Is it time for the academic world to catch up?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Today, the <a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media<\/a> at George Mason University launches <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pressforward.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">PressForward<\/a><\/strong>, a new discovery portal and publishing platform for scholarship and intellectual discussion on the web.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.niemanlab.org\/images\/PressForward-300x95.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"95\" \/><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The  big idea of PressForward is to create a digital-first alternative to  the cumbersome mechanisms of traditional gatekeepers \u2014 academic journals  \u2014 while keeping main benefits of print publication and peer review:  their ability to concentrate a community\u2019s attention around the best  emergent writing and research.<\/strong> The project is bankrolled through a grant from the Alfred P.
