Student achievement. These are mainstays of the  conversation about what education \u201creform\u201d is trying to achieve. But are  they useful proxies for teaching and learning?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Testing cannot be  the sole aim of education because test scores don\u2019t tell the whole  story of what is going on in classrooms around the nation. Higher test  scores do not equate to deeper learning, which goes beyond \u201ccompetence\u201d  to synthesis and analysis across disciplines.
